An Italian citizen registered with AIRE applies for a passport to the consulate competent for their consular district. The Firm does not merely make the booking: it verifies the registry position, prepares the documentation and follows the application until the passport is issued.
Prerequisites
- Registration with AIRE at the consulate to which the application is submitted, with an up-to-date address.
- Up-to-date civil status in the registers of the Italian town hall (marriage, divorce, minor children).
Method of submission
Procedures vary from consulate to consulate: some accept applications exclusively by post, dealing with them in chronological order; others operate solely by appointment through the Prenot@mi system, often with a waiting list, and do not accept requests sent by post or by e-mail.
Law 11/2026 also provides for the possibility of submitting the application to the questura (police headquarters) of the place of residence, domicile or abode in Italy.

Parents with minor children
Since 14 June 2023 a parent of minor children is no longer required to produce the consent of the other parent for the issue of their own passport, unless otherwise ordered by the judicial authority. For the issue of a passport to a minor child, however, the consent of both parents is still required.
Required documentation
- Valid identity document and passport-size photograph (35×45 mm, white background).
- Application form, prepared by the Firm.
- Registration on the Prenot@mi system, where required by the consulate.
Timescales
Timescales depend on the consulate and are not guaranteed. It is advisable to submit the application well in advance of the document's expiry date.
Costs
The consular fee for a passport is currently €116.20 (single rate; amounts are subject to revision) and is payable in addition to the professional fees, which are set out in a detailed, no-obligation quote.
