An Italian citizen who settles in Spain must regularise their position with the Spanish authorities, and their family members who are not citizens of the Union are entitled to a specific residence document. Tramite Italia assists citizens and their family members with the preparation of applications and in dealings with the Oficinas de Extranjería (immigration offices) and the Policía Nacional.
New Reglamento de Extranjería. Since 20 May 2025 Real Decreto 1155/2024 has been in force; it replaced the 2011 regulation and reformed family reunification and arraigo (residence on grounds of settlement).
Family members of Spanish citizens. The new Reglamento has introduced a specific residence authorisation for family members of Spanish citizens, distinct from the regime applicable to family members of citizens of the Union.
Citizens of the Union. Real Decreto 240/2007, which was not amended by the reform, continues to apply to Italian citizens and their family members.
